Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that typically affects people during the autumn and winter months. The shorter days and reduced sunlight can leave you feeling low, tired, and unmotivated (due to changes in melatonin, serotonin and vitamin D). If you’re experiencing these feelings, it’s important to know that you’re not alone, and support is available.

SAD can bring about a range of symptoms, including a lack of energy, oversleeping, cravings for carbohydrates, and feelings of sadness or irritability. These symptoms can make everyday life feel challenging and isolating. Often, these feelings are not a sign of weakness but a natural response to the changes in light and season.

As a person-centred counsellor, my focus is on offering you a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your feelings and experiences. I believe you are the expert on your own life, and my role is to walk alongside you, helping you to uncover your inner strength and resources.

Together, we can look at how SAD is affecting your life and explore ways to cope. Whether it’s understanding your triggers, exploring lifestyle adjustments, or simply having a space to share your thoughts, our work will be guided by what feels right for you.

Many people find it helpful to talk about their emotions openly, especially during difficult times. Through counselling, we can build strategies tailored to your needs, such as managing negative thought patterns, building resilience and identifying small but meaningful steps to improve your well-being.

SAD is more than just the "winter blues", it’s a real condition and something you don’t have to face this alone. With the right support and care, whether this is your first step or one of many, seeking help is a sign of strength. We are here to help you navigate through this with the right approach.
